Benzyl-octyl

The acetates of most alcohols are also commercially available and have diverse uses. Because of their high solvent power, ethyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, amyl, and isoamyl acetates are used in ceUulose nitrate and other lacquer-type coatings (see Cellulose, esters). Butyl and hexyl acetates are exceUent solvents for polyurethane coating systems (see Coatings Urethane polymers). Ethyl, isobutyl, amyl, and isoamyl acetates are frequentiy used as components in flavoring (see Flavors and spices), and isopropyl, benzyl, octyl, geranyl, linalyl, and methyl acetates are important additives in perfumes (qv). [Pg.374]

The present authors with co-workers studied extraction with readily available DC18C6 (common mixture of isomers) and picrate [56,69,70]. Extraction efficacy for primary amines was found to follow the expected series methyl < /-butyl < benzyl < octyl < nonylamine. Secondary and tertiary amines are recovered with crown ethers much less efficiently, as are amines with hydrophilic groups (e.g., noradrenaline). Among the chlorinated hydrocarbons studied as diluents, tetrachloroethane appeared the best [71] (Table 2). Tetrachloroethane is known to be the best in some other systems probably, its bulky molecules could not effectively solvate the host, which makes complexation with the guest easier [72]. We also developed an extraction-photometric method for the determination of benzylamine (1 — 10 jug/mL, relative standard deviation 5%) in the presence of less hydro-phobic primary amines, secondary/tertiary amines, and amino acids. [Pg.104]

Ahphatic esters such as adipates, azelates and sebacates enable PVC to remain flexible even in arctic climates. Di-octyl sebacate is especiaUy eflective in this respect, but expensive. Adipates are widely used in food packaging film because of their acceptability under food contact regulations. They have a low viscosity, making them convenient for PVC paste formulations. Examples include di-iso-nonyl adipate and benzyl octyl adipate. [Pg.75]

Desmocoll 176 is compatible with such plasticizers as benzyl butyl phthalate, diphenyl cresyl phosphate and trichlorethyl phosphate. It has slight or no compatibility with dibutyl phthalate, dioctyl phthalate, triphenyl phosphate, tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl adipate, benzyl octyl adipate, phenyl and cresyl alkyl sulphonates. [Pg.234]
