Nylon coatings

Nylon coating powders are available for electrostatic spray and fluidized-bed appHcation. Nylon coatings are very tough, resistant to scratching and... [Pg.318]

Thermoplastic polyesters achieved some commercial success during the mid-1980s however, these were eventually replaced by nylon coating powders in functional coatings and thermosetting polyester powders in decorative appHcations because of lack of any unique characteristics or price advantages (see Polyesters, thermoplastic). [Pg.319]

Samples for infra-red absorption measurement were introduced between two rubbed nylon coated calcium fluoride substrates spaced 10 pm apart. To insure proper parallel alignment, samples were cooled at 0.02° C/minute from the isotropic to the Smectic C phase. The alignment was then checked using polarizing microscopy. Polarized IR spectra (32 scans per spectrum) were obtained using an FTIR spectrometer (IFS-66 Bruker, Pillerica, MA) equipped with a wire grid polarizer at a resolution of 2 cm"1. [Pg.19]

The nylon-coated bullets from Smith Wesson and the Geco TMJ bul-let/new primer composition, although effective in markedly reducing the lead levels, did not totally eliminate the problem. In 1983, Dynamit Nobel introduced 9 mmP caliber ammunition with a TMJ bullet and a primer free of lead, antimony, barium. The new primer type was called Sintox. A typical Sintox primer composition contains 15% diazodinitrophenol (DDNP) and 3% tetracene as the explosive ingredients, 50% zinc peroxide as the oxidizer, 5% of 40-pm size titanium metal powder, and 27% nitrocellulose as propellant powder.202 As expected, other munitions manufacturers eventually introduced similar ammunition, some with primers that were lead free but containing antimony and barium and others free of lead, antimony, and barium. The objective was to produce ammunition which performed satisfactorily in every way and did not produce any toxic product on discharge. [Pg.224]

In order to prepare a surface-stabilized lyo-SmC sample, C50/formamide mixtures with a mass fraction of 19 wt% of formamide were tilled into thin nylon coated cells of 1.6 pm cell gap by the suction method cf. Sect. 4.4). Since the cell gap is considerably smaller than the helical pitch length of several micrometers the formation of the helical structure is suppressed and instead of the striped texture a typical domain texture as shown in Fig. 5.36 with separate domains of opposite tilt directions is observed. [Pg.93]

Later in the 1970s nylon-coated PVC jumper wire was used in the UK, the nylon coating giving toughness and cut-through resistance, but at the same time introducing a flammability problem. This was rapidly overcome, however, by the introduction of a single shot extrusion of PVC crosslinked by irradiation. [Pg.265]

In one case study of law enforcement trainees described in a recent NIOSH Alert, blood lead levels at an Indoor firing range rose from a pre-training mean of 6.5 pg/dl to 50.4 pg/dl post training. Mean airborne lead concentrations were more than 40 times the OSHA permissible exposure limit. After changes were made to the ventilation system, airborne lead concentrations dropped below detectable levels. In addition, using ammunition that had nylon-coated and copper-jacketed bullets substantially reduced (94 - 97 percent) airborne lead concentrations. (Photo CDC)... [Pg.216]

Airborne lead concentrations were reduced substantially (94 to 97 percent) by using ammunition that had nylon-coated and copper-jacketed bullets. [Pg.216]

PVC jackets and insulations for unjacketed constructions that are printed often contain 0.1 -0.3 phr of OPE wax. It is feasible, however, to print such constmctions without this additive through judicious choice of ink. When OPE wax is used, and stearic acid content reduced or eliminated, the surface is more readily wet by the nylon coating that is dual-extruded over building wires such as Underwriters Laboratories Type THHN. This permits higher line speeds, with a lower incidence of rejection. [Pg.348]
