Numbers in a series

Ordnungszahl, /. number in a series, serial number, specif, atomic number ordinal number, org., ab ev. (organiseh) organie. 

Fibonacci numbers, where the number sought is the nth number in a series defined in terms of relationships to the n-1, n-2, etc. members of the series. All recursive procedures must have a terminating condition, so that they do not call themselves endlessly. 

The lack of directional character of the essentially ionic bonding is a result of crystal-field effects being absent. The decreasing size of the lanthanide atoms and ions across the series, the Lanthanide Contraction see Lanthanide Contraction), is due to the contraction of the (Ss Sp ) coiffiguration due to their penetration inside the 4f orbitals (a similar contraction is noted for the transition metals, although for a different reason). Consequently a decrease in coordination number in a series of related compounds is often observed.

In addition to the dependence of the intennolecular potential energy surface on monomer vibrational level, the red-shifting of the monomer absorption as a fiinction of the number of rare gas atoms in the cluster has been studied. The band origin for the Vppp = 1 -t— 0 vibration in a series of clusters Ar -HF, with 0 < n < 5, was measured and compared to the HF vibrational frequency in an Ar matrix (n = oo). Furthermore, in a series of polyoxyethylene nonylphenol nonionic surfactants, the value of varied linearly with the HLB number of the surfactant. The water analysis is incomplete unless the number of coliform bacteria present is determined as well.
