The low Br/Cl values of waters in South Louisiana, USA, in contrast, indicate that their high salinity is derived from the dissolution of halite-dominated salt domes (Kharaka et al., 1978, 1985 Hanor, 1987). Other examples include brines in the Paradox Basin (Hanshaw and Hill, 1969) and fluids in Devonian sediments of the Alberta Basin, Canada (Hitchon et al., 1971). The waters of the Norwegian Shelf have an intermediate Br/Cl signature. This supports the conclusion of Egeberg and Aagaard (1989) that they contain at least some contribution from subaerially produced brines in addition to brines generated by the dissolution of halite. [Pg.2765]

Whilst certain aspects of the exact formation mechanism for these petroleum inclusions is unknown (cf. Roedder 1984 Nedkvitne et al. 1993), the data presented here, as well as unpublished work from several petroleum accumulations in Jurassic sands from the Viking Graben and the Haltenbanken area (Norwegian Shelf), suggest that diagenesis proceeds, utilizing residual water films, even under petroleum saturations corresponding to those found today in these petroleum-filled accumulations (up to 80% hydrocarbon saturation). [Pg.362]

In order to understand the properties of the inter-faeially active components in crude oil systems, model systems with chemical properties identical or similar to those of the original crude oil were usually used. Fordedal and co workers (35, 36) proposed model oils with asphaltenes from the Norwegian shelf dissolved in a series of decane/toluene mixtures as the oil phase. They studied the influence of the aromaticity of oil phase on the stability of water-in-erude oil emulsion. It was found that the stability of the water-inoil emulsion is related to changes in the aromaticity of the... [Pg.526]
