Norfolk Island

Perhaps someday I ll visit Norfolk Island to see the dream fish in person. My travel agent tells me that the island is serviced by two airlines, Norfolk Jet and Air New Zealand, with a travel time of two hours from Sydney. The next time you have a map handy, take a peek. The island is located in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Australia, and has a population of about 1,800. British attempts at establishing the island as a penal colony in the 19th century were ultimately abandoned. Most of the coastline consists of nearly inaccessible cliffs.

This track connects eastern Australia with the New Caledonia-Vanuatu area. It sometimes also involves presence on Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands. Camptochaete curvata is endemic in central eastern Australia and Camptochaete leichhardtii has a similar distribution there and is also present in Vanuatu. Norwich had been a city in panic when they arrived yesterday, though the authorities weren t entirely sure what they were panicking over. This track links New Zealand to the north rather than to Australia as in Track 5 (see below). In the groups examined only one species has this distribution. Hypnodendron menziesii is present in New Zealand, New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands, and doubtfully recorded in Tasmania and Norfolk...
