An analysis and computation of the non-homogeneous distribution of the temperature were first carried out by Mache [9], after whom we shall call this phenomenon the Mache effect. Lewis and Elbe [10] computed the effect taking into consideration the variable heat capacity and dissociation. 

The quantum tricks to realize high Tc superconductors are based on the generic feature of the electronic structure of the superlattices the presence of different subbands where the charge density associated with each subband is non homogenously distributed in the real space and single electron interband hopping is forbidden by symmetry. 

One can note that the diffusion of the internal variables, i.e.the diffusion of structural elements at non-homogeneous distribution of the values of internal variables, is neglected here. Otherwise, the quantities dx.g must be added to the set of arguments of the right-hand side functions in (8.19). We shall not discuss this situation henceforth.

Prediction of behaviour. Prediction of the behaviour to be expected on heating a solid must include consideration of both thermodynamic and kinetic aspects. Thermodynamics will determine the temperature ranges over which endothermic decompositions are feasible, because entropies of decomposition are invariably positive. Thus explanations of differences in behaviom during exothermic decompositions will involve control by kinetic factors. Because most decompositions occur under conditions far fi-om equilibrium, with non-homogeneous distributions of reaction zones, predictions based on equilibrium thermodynamics should generally be replaced by treatments using irreversible thermodynanoics.

Polonium Po, the immediate daughter of Pb, is highly particle-reactive.
