Nomenclature of phosphorus

The term phospho- is used for (H0)2P(0)- or ionized forms in a biochemical context (see recommendations for the nomenclature of phosphorus-containing compounds [24]). [Pg.113]

The nomenclature of phosphorus commpounds is formidable. Even for a specialist it offers many difficulties, especially as many compounds are named in more than one way. Some important changes have therefore taken place recently. Some of the names of the different classes will be found in (B-79MI11700) and (B-74MI11700). A short summary of the names of the most important monocyclic ring systems seems necessary at this point (Table 1). [Pg.496]

The nomenclature of phosphorus-containing compounds is complicated to some extent by the overlap of inorganic and organic nomenclature, particularly with respect to compounds containing the P—O—H functionality. From the point of view of this volume, the basic nomenclature used for trisubstituted phosphorus... [Pg.1]

These names are very useful for indexes. The names are in use in British literature and will be used more and more in the ACS journals. European chemists have diflBculty in converting the names into their languages, and have made some counter proposals. It will take time to solve all the problems in the nomenclature of phosphorus compounds, especially for polyphosphorus compounds. [Pg.63]

Phosphorus species that are determined in this manner are referred to as molybdate reactive, or simply reactive, and much of the nomenclature of phosphorus speciation derives from this origin. [Pg.3712]

The first seven-coordinate phosphorus compound, 12, containing a spiro phosphorus atom has recently been reported <2000IC1338>. The IUPAC recommendations for the nomenclature of spiro compounds was revised and extended in 1999 <1999PAC531>. [Pg.1067]

In view of the rapid growth of the organic chemistry of phosphorus since 1939, considerable attention has been paid to nomenclature. It has not always been easy to achieve agreement among workers in different parts of the world as to the most logical, convenient and simple system. It may not be out of place therefore to trace the inner history of some of the changes and developments that have taken place. However, the reader who is interested only in the details of the nomenclature as now accepted should turn at once to p. 25. [Pg.34]

An area of current development is the nomenclature of organometallic compounds. Organometallic compounds of Main Group elements can, to a first approximation, be considered to be derivatives of hydrides, and the methods of substitutive nomenclature can be applied. Even then, the accessibility of different oxidation states, as with phosphorus(iii) and phosphorus(v), introduces complications. Transition metal organometallic compounds are even more difficult to treat, and the development of a unified, self-consistent and accepted and applied nomenclature is not easy. Witness the different ways (k, t and italicised symbols) for denoting donor atoms in ligands. [Pg.125]

In other areas, such as oxo acids, a great deal of traditional, inadequate semi-systematic nomenclature (for example, the names of phosphorus acids) will have to be abandoned before a more rigorous nomenclature can be adopted and generally understood. There is much work yet to do. [Pg.125]
