Any substance capable of reacting with free radicals to form products that do not reinitiate the oxidation reaction could be considered to function as free-radical traps. The quinones are known to scavenge alkyl free radicals. Many polynuclear hydrocarbons show activity as inhibitors of oxidation and are thought to function by trapping free radicals [25]. Addition of R to quinone or to a polynuclear compound on either the oxygen or nitrogen atoms produces adduct radicals that can undergo subsequent dimerization, disproportionation, or reaction with a second R to form stable products. [Pg.401]

In reality does NO dissociate into adsorbed oxygen and nitrogen at those temperatures The catalyst is usually used under conditions where nitrogen desorbs and oxygen is removed by reaction with, for example, CO. The dissociation of NO is an activated process. [Pg.434]

However, besides the SCR activity, the selectivity is an important parameter for the assessment of the catalysts. In case of the SCR reaction, the selectivity with respect to both the product nitrogen and the reactant ammonia has to be considered. The product selectivity is important, as side products such as N20 can be formed and the reactant selectivity is important, as ammonia can be converted to nitrogen not only in the SCR reaction but also by the selective catalytic oxidation with oxygen [54],... [Pg.279]

In the presence of oxygen, the situation is more complicated, as more active species can be formed, which can contribute to NO decomposition or formation in the plasma. It was found [46] that the excited states of N2 do not contribute significantly to NO evolution, but mainly influence the dissociation or quenching of 02. As the concentration of 02 increases, their contribution to 02 dissociation also increases. Only nitrogen atoms in the ground state (N(2D)) or excited state (N(4S)) may contribute directly to NO formation by reactions with molecular oxygen ... [Pg.377]

Moustafa and Ahmed reported the synthesis of isoxazoles [92,93]. These compounds are related to pyrazoles except that an oxygen replaces the amine nitrogen. Scheme 49 shows the synthesis of 182 from the corresponding chal-cone 183 by reaction with hydroxylamine. Although these compounds were not tested for cytotoxicity as tubulin binders, they were found to possess antibacterial and anti-fungal activity. [Pg.58]
