MTR has also brilliantly used membranes for the recovery of olefins from the polyolefin polymerization processes. In this process, schematic of which is shown in Figure 8.9, the vent gases from the polymerization process which contains hydrocarbons and nitrogen compressed, condensed to recover liquid hydrocarbons and then fed to a membrane separator to recover olefins which are recompressed and condensed. The commercial offering of this process is done under the trade name VaporSep and is used by polyolefin producers like ExxonMobil, Formusa Plastics, SABIC and Sinopec. MTR has similar processes for propylene, vinyl chloride and ethylene oxide.
