Nickel compositional model

The compositional model for the core has a light element composition that seeks to ht the density requirements for the outer core and is consistent with cosmochemical constraints. Signihcantly, along with iron and nickel the core contains most of the planet s sulfur, phosphorus, and carbon budget. Finally, this model composition is notable in that it is devoid of radioactive elements. The discussion that follows reviews the issues associated with compositional models for the core. [Pg.1253]

An important appHcation of MMCs in the automotive area is in diesel piston crowns (53). This appHcation involves incorporation of short fibers of alumina or alumina—siHca in the crown of the piston. The conventional diesel engine piston has an Al—Si casting alloy with a crown made of a nickel cast iron. The replacement of the nickel cast iron by aluminum matrix composite results in a lighter, more abrasion resistant, and cheaper product. Another appHcation in the automotive sector involves the use of carbon fiber and alumina particles in an aluminum matrix for use as cylinder liners in the Prelude model of Honda Motor Co. [Pg.204]

The SiC whisker-reinforced alumina composite, a model for engineered materials, has opened new vistas for tool material development. Whereas SiC whisker-reinforced alumina is used extensively for the machining of nickel-base superaHoys, SiC whiskers react chemically with steel, causing rapid wear on the rake face. Attempts are underway to replace SiC whiskers with less reactive whiskers such as TiC or TiN. [Pg.215]

The molybdenum, tungsten and tantalum concentration influence on LCD nickel-ferrous HRS resistance, used for gas turbine installations parts is investigated. The tests were carried out on modeling compositions. Samples were molded on the basis of an alloy of the ZMI-3C. The concentration of tantalum varied from 0 up to 5% with a step of 0,5%. The contents of elements were determined by a spectral method. [Pg.437]

It is seen that the film evaporated on the low-temperature substrate shows a strong dependence on composition of the Ni-Cu concentration and a large increase in activity compared with pure nickel. However, the films treated at 250°C show a gradual decrease upon alloying. The treatment at 250°C apparently equilibrates the alloy, and the behavior can be understood on the basis of the cherry model disscussed in the previous section. [Pg.92]

In Section IV, the kinetics and mechanisms of catalytic HDM reactions are presented. Reaction pathways and the interplay of kinetic rate processes and molecular diffusion processes are discussed and compared for demetallation of nickel and vanadium species. Model compound HDM studies are reviewed first to provide fundamental insight into the complex processes occurring with petroleum residua. The effects of feed composition, competitive reactions, and reaction conditions are discussed. Since development of an understanding of the kinetics of metal removal is important from the standpoint of catalyst lifetime, the effect of catalyst properties on reaction kinetics and on the resulting metal deposition profiles in hydroprocessing catalysts are discussed. [Pg.97]

A receptor model analysis in western Germany separated nitrate-rich from sulphate-rich secondary aerosols, with the latter being accompanied with vanadium and nickel [7]. Such factor composition pinpoints to heavy oil combustion sources which can be found, e.g. in oil refineries, off-shore platforms and overseas ships. In addition, trans-boundary pollution from eastern European countries is a significant source. [Pg.210]

Raney-type nickel catalysts are typically prepared by leaching aluminium from a Ni-Al alloy using a concentrated sodium hydroxide solution [1-3], This process of activation critically affects the structure and properties of Raney-type nickel catalysts. The initial structure and composition of the starting alloy also influence the performance of the final catalyst [4-7], In this paper, numerical modelling is compared to experimental measurements in an attempt to simulate both the 3D morphology of as-leached Raney-Ni catalyst material and investigate the nature of the exposed catalyst surfaces. [Pg.152]

Model Ni/MnOx catalysts were prepared by 150-X nickel deposition onto an oxidized manganese disk under ultra-high vacuum. The surface composition of the catalyst wa-s followed as a function of time at 500 K in ultra-high vacuum. Rapid diffusion of reduced manganese oxide onto the nickel surface was observed. This oxide migration phenomenon was observed for a wide range of metal/... [Pg.54]
