This paper describes the successful incorporation of molybdenum and molybdenum-nickel clusters into zeolites with 12-membered ring by aqueous ion exchange and application of the resulting materials to HDS reaction of benzothiophene. Stoichiometry of the ion exchange was examined by elemental analysis. UV-visible spectroscopy and EXAFS measurements were carried out to investigate the structure of molybdenum species loaded on zeolites. [Pg.108]

The reactions of some transition metal cluster ions have been described in a review by Parent and Anderson (201). The review covered reactions reported up to 1992 and so the reactions reported here are generally later than 1992. A recent review by Knickelbein (202) discusses the reactions of cation clusters of iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, silver, niobium, and tungsten with small molecules such as H2 and D2. Some of the reactions in Knickelbein s review are included in the following tables of reactions (Tables IV and V). Table IV gives examples of the reactions of transition metal cluster ions and includes the vaporization source, experimental apparatus, the reactants, and the observed product ions. A few examples from these tables will be selected for further discussion. [Pg.395]

The Ni3S2 fragments in the two complexes (263) and (265) have a trigonal bipyramidal geometry with the two S atoms in the apical positions and the three nickel atoms in the equatorial plane, as found in other organometaUic compounds which contain the same Ni unit.1939 The formation of the enneanuclear complex (264), on the contrary, is exceptional and no other complex of this stoichiometry was isolated with analogous tertiary phosphines, with selenium, or with metals other than nickel. It is not possible to assign any definite oxidation number to nickel in complex (264). The lack of two electrons with respect to the situation of nine nickel(II) ions was reported to be essential for the existence of complex (264) because the oxidation is spontaneous and its reduction invariably leads to the decomposition of the cluster compound.19 ... [Pg.167]

In the example depicted in Fig. 1.32, Ni4 cluster ions are selected from the initial nickel cluster distribution. Treatment of this beam of tetranuclear clusters with a defined pressure of carbon monoxide and subsequent mass spec-trometric analysis of the products reveals the formation of a series Ni4(CO) cluster ions. The mass spectrum in Fig. 1.32 was obtained by increasing the CO pressure gradually until no change in the product spectrum was observed anymore, i.e., when saturation of the cluster with carbon monoxide has occurred [31]. In this case, the highest molecular weight ion has the formula... [Pg.39]
