Odor/Structure Correlation attempts to elucidate the mechanisms which mediate the information transfer from structural featxires of a molecule to a corresponding information pattern. The latter originates in olfactory neurons and is encoded in nerve impulses. It is projected for further analysis, discrimination and recognition to the higher olfactory centers of the CNS. The respiration rate is altered by changes in the chemical composition of the blood, and also as a result of emotional stress or voluntary efforts. Passing from quiet respiration to dyspnea affects different nerves, such as the intercostal nerve. Breathing patterns are controlled by a complex network of neurons connected to efferent fibers chemoreceptors, stretch receptors, pressure receptors. When evidence was presented that ACh might be the transmitter of nerve impulses from motor nerve to striated muscle, or from neuron to neuron, many outstanding neurophysiologists envisaged the possibility of the same mechanism at the central synapses.
