Odor/Structure Correlation attempts to elucidate the mechanisms which mediate the information transfer from structural featxires of a molecule to a corresponding information pattern. The latter originates in olfactory neurons and is encoded in nerve impulses. It is projected for further analysis, discrimination and recognition to the higher olfactory centers of the CNS. This information transfer includes the transduction process which converts chemical to electrical signals. 

The respiration rate is altered by changes in the chemical composition of the blood, and also as a result of emotional stress or voluntary efforts. Passing from quiet respiration to dyspnea affects different nerves, such as the intercostal nerve. Breathing patterns are controlled by a complex network of neurons connected to efferent fibers chemoreceptors, stretch receptors, pressure receptors. The efferent fibers send impulses to the motor nuclei in the spinal cord, and from there the impulse is transferred to the respiratory muscles. 

Neurons stimulated by sinusoidal currents exhibit a synchronized response to the driving cycle, consisting of a train of repetitive action potentials as the bursting cells which rhythmically show self-sustained membrane oscillations accompanied by burst of repetitive impulses. The typical pattern of frequency change in response to a sinusoidal stimulus is graphically illustrated in Fig. 4.

When evidence was presented that ACh might be the transmitter of nerve impulses from motor nerve to striated muscle, or from neuron to neuron, many outstanding neurophysiologists envisaged the possibility of the same mechanism at the central synapses. Dale recalled, in his Harvey lecture in 1987, that Sherrington looks upon the transmission of excitation from a motor nerve ending to a voluntary muscle as probably furnishing a pattern of what happens at a central synapse (27). No experimental data Avere available at that time for such an assumption.
