In Chapter 1, John Lowe details The Role of Medicinal Chemistry in Drug Discovery in the twenty first century. The overview should prove invaluable to novice medicinal chemists and process chemists who are interested in appreciating what medicinal chemists do. In Chapter 2, Neal Anderson summarizes his experience in process chemistry. The perspectives provide a great insight for medicinal chemists who are not familiar with what process chemistry entails. Their contributions afford a big picture of both medicinal chemistry and process chemistry, where most of the readers are employed. Following two introductory chapters, the remainder of the book is divided into three major therapeutic areas I. Cancer and Infectious Diseases (five chapters) II. Dr Neal Halsey, head of the Institute for Vaccine Safety at John Hopkins University, explained that the poor sales had resulted from public misperception and the promotion of false concerns (5). Lyme disease researchers consider the Lyme vaccine story in the USA to have been a setback in Ljme disease prevention. Vaccines meeting the specific epidemiological situation in Europe are under development. Lyme disease prevention and prophylaxis has been reviewed (6). 

John H. O Neal, M.D. has been a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice since 1977. A past chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Sutter Community Hospital in Sacramento, Dr. O Neal is currently on the hospital staff. He is also an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California at Davis School of Medicine. He lectures on depression and psychopharmacology to mental health professionals, employee assistance programs, and the public. Dr. O Neal received his M.A. in psychology from Harvard University.
