Theoretical aspects of underwater expins were studied intensively during WWII. The prominent names associated with these studies are Kirkwood, Bethe, Brinkley, Penney and Dasgupta. Most of their efforts were summarized in presently hard-to-find NDRC reports. Fortunately Cole (Ref 1, Chaps 2,4 8) provides an excellent detailed overview of their work. In this section we will follow Cole s presentation very closely. A less detailed summary of the theoretical studies is given in Chapt 13 of Ref 10... [Pg.77]

Considerable work was done during and after WWlI for US Army Navy by NDRC, PicArsn, CalTech, etc. Results of these investigations were discussed in various reports, such as OSRD, PATR, etc, all of them declassified only recently(See Refs 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 22, 26,... [Pg.75]

It should be noted that a new technique has been developed to cast large grains of solventless double-base proplnts for rocket motors. This means that in future it will not be always necessary to use composite proplnts in prepn of large rocket proplnt grains Refs l)Anon, "The Preparation and Testing of Explosives , Summary Technical Report of Division 8, NDRC Vol 1 (1946), 93ff la)W.
