ADVANCE does seem to be improving institutional climate, culture, and retention for STEM women in academia, at least in the short term. A caution comes from data suggesting that women may have lower participation in the newer heavily frmded areas of translational science and technology transfer, especially in information technology (IT), nanotechnology and biotechnology (National Science Board 2011).
