Nanostructures and nanomaterials

In this brief overview, we will use selected examples to illustrate how nanotechnology impacts catalyst preparation and ways that catalytic reactions can be conducted. We will also discuss the impact of catalysis on nanotechnology using examples where catalysts are used to facilitate preparation of nanostructures and nanomaterials, and to produce motion in nanomachines. [Pg.5]

In recent years, nanotechnology and nanomaterials have been widely used in designing advanced functional materials based on photoresponsive LCPs. Although several reviews have concentrated on the photodeformable effect of LCPs and their applications in soft actuators [22], to date the influence of nanostructures and nanomaterials on the photodeformable properties of LCPs has not been summarized. In this chapter, we mainly focus on the utilization of special nanostructures and amazing physicochemical properties of nanomaterials to manipulate the photomechanical behaviors of LCPs. Fmthermore, their potential applications as light-driven devices and other future prospects are proposed. [Pg.302]

The nanoscale particles and related species prepared in microemulsions can be used as precursors for more complex nanostructures and nanomaterials. For example, Pileni and coworkers used Ag and capped Ag2S nanoparticles of narrow size distribution for self-assembly into two-dimensional monolayers and three-dimensional superstructures (153,154,161,163,197-201). [Pg.534]

Several analytical characterization tools have been used successfully in past to determine the principal properties of nanostructures and nanomaterials, but a lack of standard methodologies makes it difficult to compare these measurements. The development of a protocol in which standardized analysis methods and procedures are defined is needed. Typical characterization analyses used in the nanotechnology science are ... [Pg.141]
