Myoglobin parameters

The model system for these calculations is carboxy-myoglobin starting from the X-ray coordinates (19). The polar hydrogen parameter set PARAM19 (20) was used for all calculations. In this representation there are 1532 atoms. It is not expected that the results of this work would change substantially if a different protein or if a different parameter set were used. [Pg.133]

The amount of tightly bound water (water of hydration) present in the myoglobin solution can be calculated from the amplitude of the S dispersion using a method previously described (1,10). From the value of 3.6 for this parameter (Table I) a value of hydration of 0.15-0.02 unit mass of water per unit mass of myoglobin is obtained. Considered as a volume fraction of the total water content this would amount to about 4%, which compares well with the figure of 5% recently proposed for muscle fibres by Foster, Schepps and Schwan (16). [Pg.61]

We enrolled five members of the Kanazawa Medical University Soccer Team (including one member with a history of ALPE) in order to examine changes in serum creatinine, serum myoglobin, and CPK before and after a match. There were no differences in the levels of change in these three parameters regardless of the presence or absence of a history of ALPE (Fig. 66). We did not investigate creatinine clearance. [Pg.74]

The replacement of native haem with metal-substituted porphyrin can be performed in two ways. In the first, iron ions are removed from the protein by treating native protein with anhydrous HF, followed by insertion of the appropriate metal to metal-free protein [57-59]. In the second, haem is removed either chemically or by recombination (preparing a proper recombinant protein), and then protein is reconstituted with metal-substituted porphyrins [60-64]. The Zn-substituted metal-loproteins such as cytochrome c [65-67], myoglobin [59,61, 62, 64, 68, 69], and haemoglobin [64, 68,70] have been extensively used to study photoinduced ET (PET) between modified proteins and their physiological redox partners. Interestingly, in haemoglobin with a and /3 subunits it was possible to determine ET parameters for... [Pg.215]

A numerical algorithm (Beratan et al., 1990) was implemented to survey electrontunneling pathways in tRu-modified myoglobin and cytochrome c. The calculation results concerning the optimum pathway for ET between ruthenated (His 48) and Fe in myoglobin taking 0= 1.0 A 1 and orientation parameter cts = 0.1 and J [= 4.65xl0 6 (Eqs. 2.23 and... [Pg.54]
