Mucous membrane pemphigoid

Recent therapeutic approaches have been directed to the immunologic aspects of OCP. Intravenons immimoglob-ulin immunomodulatory therapy has proven a safe and effective therapy for otherwise treatment-resistant OCP. Subconjunctival mitomycin C was recently described as a promising treatment of OCP. Cnrrently, nse of tacrolimns and etanercept has been reported to be snccessfiil in managing mucous membrane pemphigoid and OCP. 

In an open trial in 25 patients treated with sulfamethoxy-pyridazine (1 g/day) for mucous membrane pemphigoid unresponsive to topical steroid treatment, 12% of patients were withdrawn, 4% because of allergic reactions, the others because of significant hemolysis (6).

Management Cimetidine The use of cimeti-dine to reduce dapsone-dependent hematological adverse effects in a patient with mucous membrane pemphigoid has been reported [58 ].

Mouth and teeth A mucous membrane pemphigoid occurred in a patient treated with atenolol for hypertension.

Haematologic Thirteen patients with severe refractory mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) were treated with oral CYC at an initial dose of 2 mg/kg without corticosteroids. Side effects included lymphopenia (n=10), leading to discontinuation of CYC for six patients [91.
