Local motion

So far, there have been few published simulation studies of room-temperature ionic liquids, although a number of groups have started programs in this area. Simulations of molecular liquids have been common for thirty years and have proven important in clarifying our understanding of molecular motion, local stmcture and thermodynamics of neat liquids, solutions and more complex systems at the molecular level [1 ]. There have also been many simulations of molten salts with atomic ions [5]. Room-temperature ionic liquids have polyatomic ions and so combine properties of both molecular liquids and simple molten salts.

The eddy concept was thus introduced. An eddy still eludes precise definition, but in one interpretation it is conceived to be a turbulent motion, localized within a region of a certain size, that is at least moderately coherent over this region. In 1996, the PEER Lifelines Program (http // peer.berkeley.edu/fifelines) was initiated, under the coordination of the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center, funded by the California Department of Transportation and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The aim was to improve the seismic safety and reliability of fife-fine systems with particular focus on the characterization of ground motions, local soil and site response, and the performance of bridge structures and electric substation equipment. 

Finally both models can be combined together, with source parameters estimated by a regional network and ground motion locally verified at a specific site.
