Mortality data defined

All data were evaluated and updated as of August 1, 2003. Endpoints of the analysis were transplant-related mortality (TRM), incidence and severity of acute GvHD, incidence and severity of chronic GvHD, incidence of relapse, disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Transplant-related mortality is defined from any cause other than recurrent malignancy.

Suicidal risk. Data from 36,689 adult men and women (25-64 years of age) who participated in a population survey between 1972 and 1992 indicated that clustering of the heavy use of alcohol, cigarettes, and coffee could serve as a new marker for increased risk of suicide. The mortality of the cohort was monitored for a mean of 14.4 years, which yielded 169 suicides. Criteria for heavy use of each psychoactive substance were defined as alcohol more than 120 g/ week, cigarettes more than 21/day, and coffee more than 7 cups/day. Approximately... 

The LD q is calculated from data obtained by using small groups of animals and usually for only a few dose levels. Therefore, there is an uncertainty factor associated with the calculation. This can be defined by determining the 95% confidence limits for the particular levels of mortality of interest (Fig. 7). The 95% confidence limits give the dose range for which there is only a 5% chance that the LD5Q will be outside. 

Developmental Toxicity. Data regarding the developmental toxicity of hydrazines in humans are not available. Data regarding the developmental effects of hydrazines in animals are limited to a study which reported increased fetal and neonatal mortality following exposure to hydrazine by the parenteral route (Lee and Aleyassine 1970). No apparent developmental effects were seen after oral exposure of pregnant hamsters to 1,2-dimethylhydrazine dihydrochloride (Schiller et al. 1979). Studies that investigate the developmental effects of 1,1-dimethylhydrazine for any exposure route, as well as studies that better define the dose-response relationship for the developmental effects of hydrazine and... 

Although there have been conflicting reports, most chnicians believe that exposure to iron may contribute to the risk of bacterial infection since iron is used by microorganisms for metabolic functions. The association of IV iron with oxidative stress, acceleration of atherosclerosis, and other cardiovascular conditions has also been suggested. These potential long-term risks of IV iron therapy are not clearly defined and there are no data that unequivocally confirm that aggressive use of IV iron in CKD patients treated with erythropoietic therapy increases patient morbidity or mortality. ... 

In conclusion, it remains unclear what role HRV has in the prediction of SCD and it may be a more robust indicator of total mortality. BRS also predicts total mortality, and although the data are somewhat conflicting, there is evidence to support its ability to predict SCD in patients with CAD. HRT is a relatively new risk stratification tool which is associated with total mortality, but as with HRV and BRS its role in SCD prediction is less well-validated. For HRV, BRS, and HRT, more studies with longer follow-up and intervention trials are needed to define their role in risk stratification paradigms.
