Mordant blue

Technically important dyes are salicylic acid derivatives that function as chrome mordant dyes for wool. Thus Cl Mordant Blue 1 (6.187) is made by the aldehyde synthesis from 2,6-dichlorobenzaldehyde and 2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzoic (o-cresotinic) acid in concentrated sulphuric acid. Oxidation of the leuco base is achieved by the addition of sodium nitrite. On wool the product, which is isolated as the sodium salt, is a dull maroon colour, changing to a bright blue on treatment with a chromium salt. Some dyes of this type, such as Cl Mordant Violet 1 (6.188), also contain a basic group. This compound is also prepared by the aldehyde route. [Pg.341]

Syoyama and Nogima reported a colorimetric method for the detection of procaine in urine, where the drug and other phenethylamines were extracted [46]. The extraction involved ion association with Chrome Azurol S (C.I. Mordant blue 29), and was applied to a screening test for the drug and other related amines. [Pg.432]

To titrate alkylchlorosilanes such as trimethylsilicon chloride, dimethylsilicon dichloride, methylsilicon trichloride and silicon tetrachloride, titration in methyl cyanide with 0.05 n phenazone or nitron in methyl cyanide, or with a solution of amidopyrine in benzene by visual and potentiometric methods is suggested173. The indicators used are crystal violet, dimethylaminoazobenzene, bromocresol purple, methyl orange, bromo-phenol blue and gallo sea blue (C.I.-Mordant Blue 14) the addition of benzene, toluene, chlorobenzene or carbon tetrachloride does not effect the results. [Pg.410]

Eriochrome Cyanine R (C. I. Mordant Blue 3, Solochrome Cyanine R), a triphenylmethane dye, forms, in weakly acid solution, a violet lake with aluminum ions which is the basis of a spot test for the metal, One drop of the acidified sample is placed on a test plate and mixed with one drop each of Na acetate-acetic acid buffer solution (pH 5) and 1 % aqueous Eriochrome Cyanine R. The pH should be 4-6. One drop of NaHSOg solution is added. The formation of a violet color which is stable for 1 minute indicates the presence of aluminum. Iron i salts must first be reduced with ascorbic acid. Ti, Zr and Th ions form colored precipitates which must be centrifuged off. Cu must be masked with thioglycolic acid. [Pg.103]

Chromeazurole (Alberon, C. I. Mordant Blue 29), a fuchsin dye, gives a red-violet color lake with beryllium in weakly acid solution. One drop of the test solution is treated on a spot plate with a drop of 2 iV sodium acetate and one drop of the yellow alcoholic dye solution. Quantities of beryllium above 1 y yield a deep violet color. Smaller amounts (down to 0.3 y) give a pink color with a blue edge adhering to the spot plate. Iron, aluminum, zirconium and copper salts likewise give color lakes with chromeazurole. These interferences can be avoided by masking with EDTA,NaF and tartaric acid. [Pg.128]
