Monododecyl phosphate

The nonoxyethylenated monoalkyl phosphates cause little skin irritation and are used in personal care products. The sodium salt of monododecyl phosphate, unlike soap, works in a weakly acidic medium and can therefore be used as a detergent in face cleaners and cleansers and in body shampoos. The potassium or alkanol-ammonium salt of monohexadecyl phosphate is used as an emulsifying agent in skin care products. The dialkyl phosphate must be avoided in the synthesis of these products, since it reduces foaming and water solubility. [Pg.15]

Two processes take place simultaneously in the emulsion formation a) dispersion of one liquid in another b) coalescence, i.e. irreversible fusion of two or more droplets and formation of a larger one. The coalescence proceeds in several subsequent stages [54] formation of a thin film as result of droplet contact, thinning of the film, and its rupture when achieving a critical thickness. The role of the surfactant concentration in the formation of emulsions can be demonstrated using as an example sunflower oil emulsions stabilized by potassium monododecyl phosphate (see Fig. 6.8). [Pg.533]

For various phosphonates, short-chain mono/dialkyl phosphonates, neutral amine salts of monoalkyl phosphonates and triiso-propyl phosphates form oily thin polymeric Aims because their physical properties do not encourage the retention of these Alms within the contact [27]. Long-chain-length mono- and dialkyl phosphonates form protective layers under boundary lubrication conditions. Monododecyl phos-phonate yields Alms of approx. 100 p.m thickness. The generation of these Alms depends on the availability of Fe in the surface. [Pg.94]
