Modal analysis and field propagation techniques are the basic means in the design process for lO-devices if the spatially resolved optical field is considered. The numerical burden to be managed depends on the geometry under consideration and the approximations used, i.e. there quite different... [Pg.251]

Chemical, Physical, and Mechanical Tests. Manufactured friction materials are characterized by various chemical, physical, and mechanical tests in addition to friction and wear testing. The chemical tests include thermogravimetric analysis (tga), differential thermal analysis (dta), pyrolysis gas chromatography (pgc), acetone extraction, liquid chromatography (lc), infrared analysis (ir), and x-ray or scanning electron microscope (sem) analysis. Physical and mechanical tests determine properties such as thermal conductivity, specific heat, tensile or flexural strength, and hardness. Much attention has been placed on noise /vibration characterization. The use of modal analysis and damping measurements has increased (see Noise POLLUTION AND ABATEMENT). [Pg.275]

When an FEA model is run, several elements must be present. These include the CAD data, material properties, loads acting on the part, and the boundary conditions used. Table 4.3 shows the typical input to conduct an analysis through one of the software programs. The minimum input for structural analysis is the modulus of elasticity, Poisson ratio, and density. For thermal predictions, the minimum inputs are coefficient of thermal expansion, specific heat, and thermal conductivity. For modal analysis, the minimum inputs are modulus of elasticity, Poisson ratio, and density. [Pg.56]

The influence of each component on the overall system performance emerged on examination of both the FTP second-by-second and modal analysis data. For purposes of illustration data from the 2.0 L and 2.4 L 1993 Japanese vehicles has been summarized in the figures below. The data from tlie other test vehicles was consistent with these two automobiles. First, cumulative emissions (Figures 4 and 5) for the 2.4 L vehicle showed the improvements in NOx and CO... [Pg.926]

In a design one has to identify the mode(s) to suppress. It usually requires a special type of finite element analysis (FEA), called modal analysis. At CSA detailed FE models use MSC.Nastran (MSC.Software, Santa Ana, CA., USA), running on dual processor HP/Linux machines. Dynamic models typically require less detail than static stress models in order to accurately capture the modal shapes. FE results show the vibrations as strain energy identifying regions of high strain energy shows where vibration suppression methods should be applied. [Pg.656]

To produce the seismic analysis model for the reactor internal structures, the lumped-mass modeling technique is used From the 3-dimensional finite element model of KALIMER reactor internal structures, the detail local stiffness analyses are performed to construct the lumped-mass seismic analysis model The seismic analysis and evaluation of KALIMER are presented through the modal analysis, the seismic time history analvsis, and the equivalent seismic stiess analysis Table 3 shows the natural frequencies of the reactor structures resulted from the modal analysis for the seismic analysis model shown in Fig 13... [Pg.210]

To investigate the dynamic characteristics of LMR core seismic analysis model shown in Fig. 15, the modal analysis is carried out. To generate the linear model used in modal imalysis, all the gap stifihess shown in Fig.4 are eliminated. The results of modal analysis show that the fundamental frequency of LMR core is 4.3 FIz and the second natural frequency is 24.3FIz. These natural frequencies of core will show non-linear behavior during impacts at load pads. [Pg.212]
