Mixing water

As far as durability of reinforced concrete is concerned, the content of sulfates and chlorides is of major importance. Seawater shall not be used for mixing water for reinforced concrete structures, because chloride and sulfate concentrations are high (respectively around 19 g/1 and 4 g/1). [Pg.195]

The location and shape of the entire electrocapillary curve are affected if the general nature of the medium is changed. Fawcett and co-workers (see Ref. 126) have used nonaqueous media such as methanol, V-methylformamide, and propylene carbonate. In earlier studies, electrocapillaiy curves were obtained for O.OIA/ hydrochloric acid in mixed water-ethanol media of various compositions [117, 118]. The surface adsorption of methanol, obtained from... [Pg.200]

In general, rubber manufacturers balance thiol reactivity and odor. The stmcture of the thiol plays a significant role in its abiUty to be transported within the polymer matrix, particularly in emulsion polymerizations, ie, mixed water—monomer emulsion. The odor of light thiols is generally too strong for most mbber manufacturers, as it is generally hard to remove residual odors from polymers. [Pg.14]

Phenols are considered to be low-to-intermediate level disinfectants, appropriate for general disinfection of noncritical and semicritical areas. They are not sporicidal and should not be used when sterilisation is required. They are dispensed in aqueous formulations or in mixed water—alcohol solutions. Levels of 400—1300 ppm in the diluted formulation are typical. [Pg.125]

Design arrangements for reduced-temperature secondary systems (sometimes referred to as injection circuits) include fixed provisions for minimum dilution rates. Conventional system-balancing devices with three-port automatic modulating valves to regulate mixed water temperatures and, hence, heat output are used. Automatic safety controls must prevent excessive temperatures occurring in the coil circuits, as floor fabrics or finishes could be damaged very rapidly. [Pg.408]

Note that if the water in the reaction is not of unit mole fraction (or nearly so), then its activity would have to be incorporated into equation 20.211. This could for example be in a mixed water/methanol solution. The water... [Pg.1235]

Methods are to pre-cool the aggregate with cold air, to chill the mix water, and to provide part of the mix in the form of flake ice. Chilled water pipes may be buried in the concrete mass. [Pg.225]

From the analysis described above, we now know that a very important molecule that may be adsorbed together with water is OH. Also, this system has been studied quite extensively within surface science [Thiel and Madey, 1987 Bedurftig et al., 1999 Clay et al., 2004 Karlberg and Wahnstrom, 2005]. It appears that a mixed water—OH system forms a hexagonal structure much like the water stmcture discussed above (see Fig. 3.13c, d). Both from DFT calculations and UHV experiments, the most stable stmcture appears to be that where every other molecule is water and every other OH. This is interesting, since it coincides with the electrochemical observation, discussed above, where the maximum OH coverage was measured to be about one-third of a monolayer [Stamenkovic et al., 2007a]. [Pg.74]

Pt and Pt-Ir tips are less susceptible to contamination than tungsten and as a result are often used for STM systems operating at atmospheric or higher pressure.28 Because these metals are softer than platinum, a simple cut is frequently used to make STM tips however, the SEM images of Shapter and co-workers32 show the significant differences between these cut tips and those that are subsequently etched in a mixed water-acetone solution (20 1) with CaCl2.H20 as an electrolyte. [Pg.47]

In other related studies,186 we determined the structures of mixed water-methanol clusters the intensity distributions of (H20)n(CH30H)JBH+ showed magic numbers at n + m = 21, 0 < m 8 due to the enhanced stabilities of the dodecahedral cage structures in the mixed clusters. Studies of the metastable dissociation of (H20)B(CH30H)mH+ (n + m < 40) provided evidence that the dissociation channels... [Pg.245]

Data from high latitudes have been excluded, because these regions have well-mixed water columns that lead to a lack of vertical distinction between surface and deep-ocean DOM. [Pg.612]
