Olivine mixing properties

If we consider the seven components in tables 5.12 and 5.13 as representative of the chemistry of natural olivines, it is clear that 21 regular binary interaction parameters (disregarding ternary and higher-order terms) are necessary to describe their mixing properties, through a combinatory approach of the Wohl or Kohler type (cf section 3.10). In reality, the binary joins for which interactions have been sufficiently well characterized are much fewer. They are briefly described below. [Pg.240]

Powell and Powell (197 ). In order to calibrate a clinopyroxene -olivine geothermometer, the authors use ternary regular solution theory (Wohl, 19 6 Prigogine and Defay, 195 ) to represent the thermodynamic mixing properties of Mg-Fe -Al (=A1+Ti+Cr+Fe3+) clinopyroxene. Olivine is assumed to be ideal. The crystallization temperatures of several intrusions, xenoliths and lavas are estimated on the basis of the model and known pressures. [Pg.89]

The thermodynamic properties of silicate melts however, are complicated by the presence of a large number of different silicate anions. While silicate minerals are usually monor disperse, containing only a single type of anion (e.g. SiojJ in olivine), molten silicates contain a distribution of different polymeric silicate anions of different molecular weights and are thus polydisperse systems. The presence of a distribution of silicate anions in the melt can be inferred from the mixing properties of silicate melts (Richardson, 1956 Masson, I965). However, it has recently become possible to separate some of the... [Pg.303]

Reversible electrochemical lithium deintercalation from 2D and 3D materials is important for applications in lithium-ion batteries. New developments have been realized in two classes of materials that show exceptionally promising properties as cathode materials. The first includes mixed layered oxides exemplified by LijMn Nij, Co ]02, where the Mn remains inert to oxidation/reduction and acts as a framework stabilizer while the other elements carry the redox load. Another class that shows much potential is metal phosphates, which includes olivine-type LiFeP04, and the NASICON-related frameworks Li3M2(P04)3. [Pg.1789]

This paper compares the outlet dimensions predicted by the Jenike silo design method [2], with those measured experimentally, in a plane flow silo test facility. These results represent a small portion of an experimental program outlined in [9], which involved the technique of laser ranging for the measurement of critical cohesive arch profiles. These experimental arching tests, and failure property measurements have been conducted with three cohesive bulk solids, namely a fly ash, hydiated lime, and olivine sand (mixed with a glycerol solution to provide cohesion). [Pg.167]
