Mishra studies

Mishra studied effects of addition of calcium and carbonates and phosphates (concentrations on the order of 10" mol dm ) on the C(pH) curves for natural calcite and apatite [246]. Usually the presence of calcium induced a shift in to more positive and presence of carbonates and phosphates to more negative value, i.e. according to expectations, but over certain pH ranges there was no effect or even the effect was opposite to the expected one. The electrokinetic behavior of apatite in calcite supernatant was similar to that of calcite in water, and the electrokinetic behavior of calcite in apatite supernatant was similar to that of apatite in water [247]. The potentials of calcite and apatite were positive and rather pH insensitive in the presence of >10" mol dm" of calcium, and negative and rather pH insensitive in the presence of >10 mol dm of phosphate, and the effect of carbonates on potentials of apatite was negligible.

Data on the electrochemistry of the telluride ion in alkaline media are relatively limited. Mishra et al. [53] studied the oxidation of Te to Te° at solid electrodes, focusing on the intermediate step(s) of this process, and in particular, the possibility of detecting ditelluride Te via rotating ring disk electrode (RRDE) methodology. Oxidation beyond the elemental state to TeO and TeO was also studied using cyclic and hydrodynamic voltammetry.

Mishra et al. [198] discussed in an exemplary way the dark and photocorrosion behavior of their SnS-electrodeposited polycrystalline films on the basis of Pourbaix diagrams, by performing photoelectrochemical studies in aqueous electrolytes with various redox couples. Polarization curves for the SnS samples in a Fe(CN) redox electrolyte revealed partial rectification for cathodic current flow in the dark, establishing the SnS as p-type. Table 12.1 illustrates studies reporting shifts in T lymphocyte cytokine production induced by Pb. Most studies found that Pb exposure at low to moderate levels causes a significant shift in the production of Thl versus Th2 cytokines with the bias toward the latter. Production of IL-4, IL-6 and frequently IL-10 is elevated while production of IFN is decreased and production of IL-12 is below the levels needed for effective host resistance to Listeria. These results occur even at low levels of exposure and the effects are persistent. The only exceptions to Pb-induced biasing in favor of Th2 are found in the reports by Goebel and colleagues [56] and Mishra and colleagues [57], In the former case, an autoimmune prone strain of mice was employed these authors found different results upon using a normal strain of mice [58],... 

Weed management by soil solarization was widely investigated with variable responses either in field or greenhouse studies (Elmore 1991b Yaduraju and Mishra 2004), though the best results were always reported in hot climate countries (Al-Masoom et al. 1993 Saghir 1997) (Fig. 9.5). 

Only a few systematic studies have been carried out on the mechanism of interaction of organic surfactants and macromolecules. Mishra et al. (12) studied the effect of sulfonates (dodecyl), carboxylic acids (oleic and tridecanoic), and amines (dodecyl and dodecyltrimethyl) on the electrophoretic mobility of hydroxyapatite. Vogel et al. (13) studied the release of phosphate and calcium ions during the adsorption of benzene polycarboxylic acids onto apatite. Jurlaanse et al.(14) also observed a similar release of calcium and phosphate ions during the adsorption of polypeptides on dental enamel. Adsorption of polyphosphonate on hydroxyapatite and the associated release of phosphate ions was investigated by Rawls et al. (15). They found that phosphate ions were released into solution in amounts exceeding the quantity of phosphonate adsorbed.
