Minimal reaction mechanism

The total concentration of catalyst is much smaller than the concentrations of the reactants or products. Note, that in real systems, the reactions are reversible and usually there are more intermediates, but for the present purpose, this minimal reaction mechanism is sufficient. The system of ODEs ... [Pg.89]

Regardless of how the possible intermediates and elementary steps are selected, the procedure given in this article presents a method for the unambiguous enumeration of all possible minimal reaction mechanisms that will generate the observed overall consumption and production of terminal species under given conditions of temperature, pressure and concentration. [Pg.274]

Cysteine proteinase contain a catalytic ally active cysteine snUhy ljtQup (Cys-25) and a histidine group (His-i59) within the active center of the sizyme [51]. Alkylation of the active-center sulfhydryl group renders the product inactive. The minimal reaction mechanism is represented in Figure 4 [52]. [Pg.114]

Based on selected data array on the sensitivity of species concentrations for the rate constants of steps at the reaction time 5-10 s, E.P. Dougherty, J.T. Hwang, H.G. Rabitz [69] determined both the dominant and imimportant steps of the reaction mechanism, as presented in Table 3.3. Further, using a more systematic method to analyze data on the sensitivity of concentrations [56] and rate-of-production of the reaction species [28], with respect to variations of the step rate constants (the method of principal components analysis) S. Vajda, P. Valko, T. Turanyi [56] ranked the role of steps for the reaction mechanism of gas-phase oxidation of formaldehyde in the presence of carbon oxide (II). They succeeded also in separating the minimal reaction mechanism involving 13 steps, which gives the same results, accurate to within 2% (for the reaction time of 5 10 s), as the initial kinetic model consisiting of 25 steps (see Table 3.5). [Pg.51]

Value ranking of steps enables also to solve the problem of the excessive mechanism reduction for the ethylbenzene oxidation inhibited by BHT, and, as a result, a base (minimal) reaction mechanism is identified. [Pg.165]

The reduction of excessive kinetic reaction models via the identification of the base(minimal) reaction mechanisms ... [Pg.235]

The methylation of secondary amines works better than for primary amines because there is no competition between the formation of mono- or dimethylated products. The best results for the microwave-enhanced conditions were obtained when the molar ratios of substrate/formaldehyde/formic acid were 1 1 1, so that the amount of radioactive waste produced is minimal. The reaction can be carried out in neat form if the substrate is reasonably miscible with formic acid/aldehyde or in DM SO solution if not. Again the reaction is rapid - it is complete within 2 min at 120 W microwave irradiation compared to longer than 4 h under reflux. The reaction mechanism and source of label is ascertained by alternatively labeling the formaldehyde and formic acid with deuterium. The results indicate that formaldehyde contri-... [Pg.448]

Despite the importance of the ORR and long history of study, very little is known about the reaction mechanism.126,130,131 Mechanistic information has been derived almost exclusively from rotating disk electrode (RDE)131,132 and rotating ring disk electrode (RRDE)133-136,62,128 studies. The rotating electrode minimizes mass transfer effects and allows a kinetic current density to be extracted. In the RRDE setup, the ring surrounding the disk electrode detects species weakly adsorbed to the electrode that are ejected due to electrode rotation. The ORR reaction (eqn 4) is... [Pg.328]

The present volume, the thirty-fourth in the series, surveys research on organic reaction mechanisms described in the literature dated December 1997 to November 1998. In order to limit the size of the volume, we must necessarily exclude or restrict overlap with other publications which review specialist areas (e.g. photochemical reactions, biosynthesis, electrochemistry, organometallic chemistry, surface chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis). In order to minimize duplication, while ensuring a comprehensive coverage, the Editors conduct a survey of all relevant literature and allocate publications to appropriate chapters. While a particular reference may be allocated to more than one chapter, we do assume that readers will be aware of the alternative chapters to which a borderline topic of interest may have been preferentially assigned. [Pg.678]

The condition of transition from combustion to detonation may be calculated in advance on the basis of experimental data with minimal knowledge of the reaction mechanism. In doing so we use (1) the dependence of the combustion velocity on the pressure, measured in experiments as u = u1pm ... [Pg.347]
