Thanks are due to Luis Blancafoit, Mike Beaipark, Ireoe Burghardt, and Adelaida Sanchez-Galvez for reading the manuscript, and for helpful hints in the presentation of this material. [Pg.318]

I would like to thank Andrew, Lana, Brenda and Brent for making me feel part of the group and for many practical things during my stay in Halifax. I also owe much to Mike Lumsden, who solved many of the communication problems between me and the Bruker NMR apparatus. [Pg.193]

MIKES. mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy spectroscopy... [Pg.446]

It is possible to prepare very heavy elements in thermonuclear explosions, owing to the very intense, although brief (order of a microsecond), neutron flux furnished by the explosion (3,13). Einsteinium and fermium were first produced in this way they were discovered in the fallout materials from the first thermonuclear explosion (the "Mike" shot) staged in the Pacific in November 1952. It is possible that elements having atomic numbers greater than 100 would have been found had the debris been examined very soon after the explosion. The preparative process involved is multiple neutron capture in the uranium in the device, which is followed by a sequence of beta decays. Eor example, the synthesis of EM in the Mike explosion was via the production of from followed by a long chain of short-Hved beta decays,... [Pg.215]

The structure of the radical cation [CaHsN] (102) has been established by mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy spectrometry (MIKE) (780MS518). From structure (103), structures (104) and (105) are formed (Scheme 4). [Pg.203]

Dissolved in water and extracted with -heptane to remove ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (checked by gas-liquid chromatography and by NMR) and distilled twice under reduced pressure [Strop, Mikes and Kalal J Phys Chem 80 694 1 976]. [Pg.261]

I am pleased to acknowledge that the simulation results presented in this chapter were obtained from calculations carried out in collaboration with Kechuan Tu, Mike Klein, and Kent Blasie. The calculations and fitting of the neutron scattering spectra benefited from discussions with Mounir Tarek. Financial support was provided by the School of Physical Sciences at the University of California at Irvine and a grant from the donors of The Petroleum Research Fund, administered by the American Chemical Society (ACS-PRF 33247-G7). [Pg.494]

Mikes and Turkova have given a classification of naturally occurring hydroxamic acids in terms of their biological function or activity. They have distinguished (a) growth factors, e.g., ferri-chromes, mycobactin, and ferrioxamines, ferrichrysins, ferrirubins, etc. (6) antibiotics, e.g, aspergillic acid, mycelianamide, albomycin, nocardamine and (c) microbial pigments such as pulcherrimin. [Pg.201]

The pyridinium- and the imidazolium-based chloroaluminate ionic liquids share the disadvantage of being reactive with water. In 1990, Mike Zaworotko (Eigure 1.4) took a sabbatical leave at the Air Eorce Academy, where he introduced a new dimension to the growing field of ionic liquid solvents and electrolytes. [Pg.5]
