Midline defect

The cone-shaped mental ossicle had increased in size, minimizing the gap between it and the hemimandibles. Rostral to the ossicle, the two hemimandibles were separated by a small midline defect (Fig. 11).

The rostral portion of the symphyseal region appeared fused from the inside. Its outer aspect showed a narrow midline defect between the two hemimandibles (Fig. 15). 

Some cancer surgery may cause facial defects integrated with an intraoral maxillary defect. Such defects are named midfacial defects, which occur in the horizontal plane of the middle third of the face and include two main categories midline and lateral. Midline defects refer to the complete or partial involvement of the nose, and/or upper lip, along with intraoral maxillary defects [7,8]. A lateral defect may include complete or partial contents of the cheek and or orbit, and may embrace an intraoral defect of the maxilla [9, 10]. Midfacial defects usually require a facial prosthesis to restore function and appearance, and also, an intraoral prosthesis such as an obturator to restore speech... 

The bladder is divided into the vertex, body and fundus. The trigone is the posterior aspect of the bladder base. This triangular space is formed by the two ureteral orifices superolaterally and by the internal urethral meatus interiorly in the midline. The trigonal or interureteral ridge, the transverse ridge between the two ureteral orifices, may produce a transverse linear defect in the frontal projection when the bladder is incompletely filled with contrast material.
