Micrographic studies

Based on structural analyses obtained by the electron diffraction technique, the deposited films are known to be monocrystalline in nature, and thus, can be regarded as a special case of a layer-bilayer mechanical growth forming almost two-dimensional crystals. However, there is evidence that Ba-behenate multilayers do in fact show absence of crystallization, as demonstrated by electron micrographic studies. [Pg.94]

The current view of the overall morphology of ribosomes is based largely on electron-micrographic studies of the subunits of E. coli. From this analysis it appears that both subunits are asymmetrical (fig. 28.6). [Pg.705]

It is assumed that the small Pd particles are well-formed single crystals. This assumption is supported by electron-micrographic studies of deBoer and Coenen (12), who found that 50 100-A particles of nickel supported on silica had straight edges, indicating that the particles were either cubic or octahedral. [Pg.15]

Bucknall, in addition to micrographic studies, confirmed polymer miscibility via dynamic mechanical testing that the Tg peaks in these systems became intermediate to the pure components indicating mutual compatibility [107-109]. This result will be discussed in the following section. [Pg.121]

Failure Morphologies. Ductile failure of notched polycarbonate specimens has long been recognized to occur with shear yielding from the notch tip (6). This occurs for the block polymers for all rates of test. Hull and Owen (5) recently reported from micrographic studies of impact fracture surfaces that the brittle failure of polycarbonate involves the formation and breakdown of a craze at the notch tip. The ductile-... [Pg.320]

It was already mentioned that for the beam tested, transverse cracking was mostly associated with unstable crack growth. It is worth adding that a micrographic study of the transverse cracks showed that the release of energy induced by transverse cracking was not enough to lead to the initiation of a crack for delamination between the 90° and the 0° layer. Such an observation was made on carbon-epoxy systems [8]. [Pg.472]

This reaction describes the formation of self-setting bone cement used ubiquitously in dentistry (Brown and Chow, 1987 Posset et al., 1998). A TEM (transmission electron micrograph) study of the conversion of TTCP to hydroxyapatite whiskers in contact with diammonium hydrogen phosphate solution was provided by Wang, Lin and Ju (2005). [Pg.103]

The structure and behavior of ethylene-co-MA have been examined extensively. It might be thought that the copolymer, which consists of highly alternating monomer units, would have a crystalline structure. However, electron microscopy and x-ray micrographic studies show the copolymer to... [Pg.431]

The following sections wifi consider the results of studies on the morphology and size of phage particles electron micrograph studies of the phage-infected cell will be taken up later. [Pg.200]
