Methyl acetanilid

CLOGP calculations on benzyl bromide and o-methyl acetanilide. 

One mol of 2,6-xylidine is dissolved in 800 ml glacial acetic acid. The mixture is cooled to 10°C, after which 1.1 mol chloracetyl chloride is added at one time. The mixture is stirred vigorously during a few moments after which 1,000 ml half-saturated sodium acetate solution, or other buffering or alkalizing substance, is added at one time. The reaction mixture is shaken during half an hour. The precipitate formed which consists of cj-chloro-2,6-di-methyl-acetanilide is filtered off, washed with water and dried. The product is sufficiently pure for further treatment. The yield amounts to 70 to 80% of the theoretical amount. 

Methaqualone is being widely abused by youths in this country. Recently, in the northeast, some abusers were stricken with severe side effects, including bloody urine and gastrointestinal cramps. The tablets were found to be of clandestine manufacture.They contained fairly large amounts of impurities from a poor synthesis. The impurities were o-toluidine, o-aminobenzoic acid, and o-methyl acetanilide—again proving the old proverb Let the buyer beware. ... 

Diloxanide furoate is the furoate ester of 2,3-dichloro-4-hydroxy-A-methyl acetanilide. This antiamoebic drug was developed as a result of the discovery that various a,a-dichloroacetamides possessed an amoebicidal activity [1]. Diloxanide furoate is considered as a safe and effective drug for the treatment of asymptotic or mildly symptomatic persons who are passing cysts of Entameba histolytica [2,3], It acts principally in the bowel lumen, and is used in the treatment of the intestinal amoebiasis. It is less effective in amebic dysentery than in asymptotic infection, but the furoate gives high intestinal concentrations and is possibly more effective than metronidazole in the treatment of cyst passers [4],...

By the further substitution of a group (CHa) in acetanilid, methyl-acetanilid, or exalgine, Cmethyl iodid upon sodium acetanilid, CsHaiNNa CjHsO. It is a crystailine solid, sparingly soluble in. HsO, readily in dilute alcohol. Its odor is faintly aromatic.
