Man kocht eine Mischung von 240 mg (1 mmol) 5-Iod-i-methyi-4-nitro-imidazoi, 130 mg (2 mmoi) Ka-liumcyanid und 23 mg (0,2 mmol) Kaliumiodid in 5 ml Dimethylformamid 4 h am RiickfluB. Dann gieBt man in 40 ml Eiswasser und laBt 3 h stehen. Der ausgefallene Feststoff wird abgesaugt und aus Ethanol umkristallisiert Ausbeute 90 mg (61%) Schmp. 137". 

Analog erhalt man 2-MethyI-(l-methyl-2-nitro-ethyI)-benzimidazol [82% Schmp. 118-119° (Benzol/Pe-trolether)].

Auch die Reaktion von Azido-benzol und seinen Methyl-, Chlor- und Nitro-Derivaten mit Methyl-benzolen in Gegenwart von Bortrifluorid fuhrt in den meisten Fallen zu Gemischen von aromatischen Aminen, wobei man z.B. aus 4-Azido-l-methyl-benzol und 1,3-Dimethyl-benzol als Hauptprodukt (2,4-Dimethyl-phenyl)-(4-methyl-phenyl)-amin (67%) neben 4-Methyi-N-(3-methyl-benzyl)-anilin (7,5%) und 4-Methyl-anilin (5%) erhalt, aus l-Azido-4-methyl-benzol und Mesitylen jedoch (4- (Methyl-phenyl)-(2,4,6-trime-thyl-phenyl)-amin (55%) neben nur wenig 2,4,6-Trimethyl-anilin (1%)2.

The nitration (fuming nitric acid) of 5-chloro-3-methyl-l-phenylpyrazole is reported to give a mononitro product (presumably the 4-nitrophenyl derivative) and a dinitro product 5-chloro-3-methyI-4-nitro-l-(4-nitro-phenyl)-pyrazole (1900CB2595 11LA329).
