Mechanical methods of joining, such as flange fittings, shall be performed carefully to avoid the creation of offsets, gaps, penetrations, and voids. [Pg.69]

Stitching - A method of joining two pieces of uncured rubber compound together by means of a stitching roller, and a hand held tool comprised of a wheel with a narrow edge which is often serrated. It is commonly used to make tank lining joints. [Pg.272]

The third method of joining heavy and light chains involves the use of recombination systems. One phage library in the Fab format has been constructed in this fashion [4], Separate VH+CH1 and VL+CL libraries were made in different vectors. The VH+CH1 library was cloned into a plasmid vector with the VH+CHI domains flanked by two recombination signals... [Pg.441]

In the electrical and electronic equipment market, adhesives compete with other joining methods such as mechanical fasteners, brazing, welding, soldering, and thermocompression bonding. Major uses of adhesives in the electrical and electronic equipment market are shown in Table 1.5. Adhesives are generally the preferred method of joining whenever... [Pg.12]

Heat sealing A method of joining plastic films by simultaneous application of heat and pressure to areas in contact. Heat may be supplied conductively or dielectrically. [Pg.149]

It is possible to distinguish three methods of joining tetrahedral structures, i.e. with common points as in SiOg, with common sides, as in SiSg, and with common faces as in AlgOg. Pauling considers that a transfer from a common point structure to a common side structure is related to an increase in the covalent character of the bonds. [Pg.341]

FIG. 6.31. A method of joining tubes of different diameter (a) shows the test-tube end with the small bulb blown up. This bulb is blown out in (b). The completed join is shown in (d). [Pg.52]

Another method of joining tubes of different diameter (a) shows tlie larger tube marked ready to be constricted (b) tlie fust step in making tlie conshiction (c) the finished conshiction (d) tlie tube ends ready to join togetlier (e) tlie shape of tlie join before blowing up (f) tlie completed join. [Pg.53]

Thermosetting Foam Substrates Most thermosetting plastics are not particularly difficult to bond. Obviously, solvent cementing is not suitable for bonding thermosets to themselves, since they are not soluble. In some cases solvent solutions can be used to join thermoplastics to thermosets. In general, adhesive bonding is the only practical method of joining a thermoset to itself or to a non-plastic material. Epoxies or modified epoxies are the most widely used adhesives for thermosets (1). [Pg.274]
