The role of 5-HT in panic disorder is unclear, but it may have a role in development of anticipatory anxiety. Preliminary data suggest that the 5-HT and 5-HT2 antagonist meta-chlorophenylpiperazine causes increased anxiety in PTSD patients.

An in vitro study demonstrated that the metabolism of trazodone to its principal metabolite, meta-chlorophenylpiperazine (mCPP), was inhibited by ritonavir, which is a potent inhibitor of the cytochrome P450 isoenzyme CYP3A4.
