Mesoporous hybrid organic-inorganic silica materials

Remarkably, in 2002, Inagaki and co-workers reported that, starting from 1,2-bis (triethoxysilyl)benzene as a siliceous precursor, mesoporous benzene-silica with crystal-like pore walls (Ph-PMO) can be prepared (Fig. 2) [35]. Owing to their crystallinity, these new hybrid organic-inorganic materials were much more stable in water than the amorphous mesoporous silica-supported sulfonic sites described above [36-39].

A new family of hybrid organic-inorganic catalysts with dispersed active sites inside ordered mesoporous materials has been prepared by anchorage of transition-metal ligands of Schiff base-type and chiral amino alcohols like (li ,2S)-ephedrine on micelle-templated silicas [180]. Metalation of the grafted ligands with manganese was followed by UV-VIS spectroscopy.
