Mercury mirror

Another interesting extension of the FECO teclmique, using a capillary droplet of mercury as the second mirror, was developed by Flom etal [6f]. The light from this special interferometer is analysed in reflection. [Pg.1735]

It is a colourless gas which decomposes on heating above 420 K to give metallic tin, often deposited as a mirror, and hydrogen. It is a reducing agent and will reduce silver ions to silver and mercury(II) ions to mercury. SnSn bonding is unknown in hydrides but does exist in alkyl and aryl compounds, for example (CH3)3Sn-Sn(CH3)3. [Pg.177]

Mercury. Upon heating a mixture of the compound with soda lime in a long test-tube, a bright metallic mirror and, finally, drops of mercury will form in the upper part of the tube if mercury is present. [Pg.1043]

Sulfamic acid and its salts retard the precipitation of barium sulfate and prevent precipitation of silver and mercury salts by alkah. Another common use is as a liquid contact in electrical silent switches. Also, mercury-vapor produces the bluish-white light of streedights. However, mercury-vapor hghts now are being replaced by sodium-vapor lights that produce a yellowish-white hght. Mercury is used in thermometers and barometers, to coat mirrors, and in the electronics industry and several other industries. [Pg.170]
