Membrane systems design basic controls

The ORO 5 Push-Stick technology is designed to deliver high doses of poorly water-soluble or slowly dissolving drugs at a controlled rate [50,52], The basic system consists of two layers, typically in a capsule-shaped tablet surrounded by a semipermeable membrane however, the system... [Pg.622]

Now rate-controlled systems—which are membrane-controlled and osmotically actuated—are available to carry out every phase of rate-controlled pharmaceutical research and development from animal toxicology to incorporation of the drug of Lnterest into a dosage form for routine use in human therapy. The experimental tools developed make it practical to study—in both animals and man—the distribution and actions of drugs in the body when their concentrations are maintained at a virtually steady Level. Data from such studies are basic to the logical design of late-controlled pharmaceutical products for medical treatment. For such research, two classes of osmotically driven pumps have be n developed—one for animals and one for clinical pharmacology. Within each class, two delivery rates are available (20-22). [Pg.303]
