Thus, most ionic liquids are formed from cations that do not contain acidic protons. A summary of the applications and properties of ionic liquids may be found in a number of recent review articles [3]. The most common classes of cations are illustrated in Figure 2.1-1, although low melting point salts based on other cations, such as complex poly cationic amines [4] and heterocycle-containing drugs [5], have also been prepared. [Pg.8]

Checking the Purification. The purity of the dry re-crystallised material must now be determined, as it is possible that repeated recrystallisation may be necessary to obtain the pure material. The purity is therefore checked by a melting-point determination, and the recrystallisation must be repeated until a sharp melting-point is obtained. Should the compound have no well-defined melting-point e.g.y the salt of an organic acid or base), it must be analysed for one suitable component element, until its analysis agrees closely with that theoretically required. [Pg.20]

These materials are also LCP polyesters based on HBA copolymers with, it is beheved, various amounts of 4,4 -biphenol, terephthaUc acid, and naphthalene-2,6-dicatboxyhc acid (NDA) as comonomers. A further approach is used by Bayer with their polyesteramide BAK resins. A film grade, with mechanical and thermal properties similar to those of polyethylene is marketed as BAK 1095. Specialty waxes include polar waxes for more polar adhesive systems. Examples would be castor wax (triglyceride of 12-hydroxy stearic acid) or Paracin wax N- 2 hydroxy ethyl)-12-hydroxy stearamide) which are used in polyester, polyamide, or with high VA EVA copolymer-based systems. Other common polar waxes are maleated polyethylenes, which are used to improve the specific adhesion of polyethylene-based adhesives, and low molecular weight ethylene copolymers with vinyl acetate or acrylic acid, which are used to improve low temperature adhesion. High melting point isotactic polypropylene wax (7 155°C) and highly refined paraffin wax (7,n 83°C) are used where maximum heat resistance is critical. Needless to say, these specialty waxes also command a premium price, ranging from 2 to 5 times that of conventional paraffin wax. [Pg.727]

The hydrochloride is prepared by dissolving the base in the minimum amount of acetone and adding a solution of hydrochloric acid in ether until the pH is acid. The hydrochloride which has precipitated is filtered off and is recrystallized twice from acetone, melting point 116°C. [Pg.171]
