Melt mixing technique

Greco et al. [50] studied the effect of the reactive compatibilization technique in ethylene propylene rubber-polyamide-6 blends. Binary blends of polyamide-6-ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) and a ternary blend of polyamide-6-EPR-EPR-g-succinic anhydride were prepared by the melt mixing technique, and the influence of the degree of grafting of (EPR-g-SA) on morphology and mechanical properties of the blends was studied. [Pg.647]

Co-continuous polymer blends of 50/50 polyamide6/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (PA6/ABS) involving multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared by melt mixing technique in order to develop conducting composites utilizing the concept of double-percolation. To control the dispersion and to selectively restrict MWNTs in the PA6 phase of the blends, MWNTs were pre-treated with two modifiers which differ in their molecular length scales and... [Pg.387]

To obtain a homogeneous and thermodynamically stable dispersion of nanomaterials in the polymer matrix, a variety of techniques are used in vegetable oil-based polymer nanocomposites. The state of dispersion of nanomaterials in the polymer matrix is the main governing factor in obtaining the required nanocomposites. However, depending on the suitability, end-use applications and cost, the three most widely used methods for the preparation of polymer nanocomposites are (i) the solution technique, (ii) in situ polymerisation and (hi) the melt mixing technique. ... [Pg.279]

Das et further used a series of long chain fatty acids to modify OMMT, and subsequently utilized them as reinforcing fillers to prepare NR nanocomposites by melt blending. They found that mechanical properties of NR nanocomposites with modified OMMT were remarkably improved. Thomas et reported that NR nanocomposites with outstanding gas barrier properties had been prepared with OMMT via a melt mixing technique. They found that the permeability decrease of the NR nanocomposites had a good qualitative correlation with the volume of the constrained region. [Pg.151]

CdSe-CdS-ZnS core-multishell polymer nanocomposites were prepared by direct dispersion of CdSe-CdS-ZnS core-multishell QDs in an epoxy polymer matrix via a melt mixing technique. Nanocomposites filled with yellow-emitting QDs were more transparent than pure epoxy polymer. A shift in the luminescence of pure epoxy from the blue region to the yellow region was observed in the nanocomposite. Synthesized nanocomposites also showed enhanced tensile properties in comparison to pure epoxy polymer [236]. Several other studied reported the use of a melt blending process for the synthesis of semiconductor-polymer nanocomposites [237-241]. [Pg.301]
