Mechanism of Flow

The thermal state of the melt in the extruder is frequently compared with two ideal thermodynamic states. One is where the process may be regarded as [Pg.251]

To fuUy understand the mechanics of flow, the following definitions explain the behavior of various types of fluids in both their static and flowing states. [Pg.883]

To understand the dynamics of the filtration process, a conceptual analysis is applied in two parts. The first half considers the mechanism of flow within the cake, while the second examines the external conditions imposed on the cake and pumping system, which brings the results of the analysis of internal flow in accordance with the externally imposed conditions throughout. [Pg.160]

In practice, the phenomenon of creeping flow at x < Y can usually be neglected. Thus, certainly, it is insignificant in the treatment of filled polymers, though it may be important, for example, in the discussion of the cold flow of filled elastomers. However, we cannot forget the existence of this effect, to say nothing of the particular interest of the physist in this phenomenon, which is probably similar to the mechanism of flow of plastic crystals. [Pg.74]

PHYSICAL MECHANISMS OF FLOW BOILING CRISIS IN VISUAL OBSERVATIONS... [Pg.334]

To understand the physical mechanisms of flow boiling crisis, simulated tests have been conducted to observe the hydraulic behavior of the coolant and to measure the thermal response of the heating surface. To do this, the simulation approaches of the entire CHF testing program are considered as follows. [Pg.334]

If the torque as measured in a Brabender is plotted in an Arrhenius plot against 1/T characteristic linear dependencies are observed (Fig. A). While powder flow is observed up to the softening point of PVC a distinct linear relationship between shear rate and reciprocal temperature exists between 150 - 180°C indicating one mechanism of flow. The deviation above ca. 180°C indicates a change in flow mechanism. [Pg.293]

Mobility was chosen as the basis for analysis as this avoids the necessity of defining the mechanism of flow restriction by foam in porous media. The mobility of a fluid is defined as the ratio of the permeability of the porous bed to the fluid divided by the fluid viscosity. [Pg.390]

Hence, to understand correctly the mechanism of flow birefringence of r d-chain polymers it is necessary to take into account both the asymmetry of the pe of their molecules and their optical anisotropy. Both the properties are the main properties of the molecule and if one of them is absent, flow birefringence in solution of kinetically rigid molecules is impossible. [Pg.116]

Mechanism of flow through porous media is fundamental in theoretical study of SLS process, such as filtration, thickening, centrifugation, expression, washing, etc. In the early study, with the development of fluid mechanics, interest was focused on flow in capillaries through incompressible sand beds. The beginning of present day theory can be traced to Hagen (1839), Poiseuille (1840), and Darcy (1856). [Pg.2771]

Particle size, shape, inter-particle forces, zeta potential, liquid surfactant phenomena, and liquid viscosity are important characteristics of a solid-liquid suspending system. Mechanism of flow through porous medium is fundamental to theories of sedimentation, filtration, centrifugation, and expression operations. Most solid-liquid materials are compacti-ble. Unique and strange behavior of pressure filtration of compactible materials has been identified. More attention should be paid for separation of those materials. [Pg.2789]

T. The critical parameter of homogenization was found to be the extensional strain, 8 = 8t =44 14 where t is the critical time to achieve miscibility at various levels of T and 8. The constancy of 8 indicates that the main mechanism of flow... [Pg.488]
