Mechanical wire model

In the schematic shown in Figure 4.2.10, the RF path is visible between the two signal sources (RF ports) used for extracting the S parameters, and is composed of a length of microstrip transmission line from each port connected to a model for a series-switch plate . Driven by the 6 mechanical wires at each side, which control its position, the switch plate is internally modeled as an equivalent circuit including transmission line, frequency-dependent resistance, and variable capacitance between the conductor on the plate and the underlap of the ends of the microstrip lines separated by the gap for the switch isolation. As with the beams, this model is defined by a complete set of parameters, such as the dimensions and material properties. Parameters can be adjusted quickly to achieve the desired RF performance for different closing states of the electromechanical structure. [Pg.68]

Fig. 10 shows the sensitivity profiling for about 20 000 injections of single bit-flip faults in the brake-by-wire model. We can see that the output of the last block LockDetect is the most sensitive part of the model part under analysis, where 40.6% of the injected faults lead to an incorrect output. This is reasonable since there are no fault handling mechanisms after this block, and faults here will therefore affect the output. The figure also shows that no faults were injected in the output of the comparison block Relational Operator. Mercury is the electrode material of choice for many electrochemical reductions and some unique oxidations (see Chap. 14). We have explored the use of both small mercury pools and amalgamated gold disks in thin-layer amperometry. Other workers have used pools in a capillary tube [7] and amalgamated platinum wire [8]. In 1979, Princeton Applied Research introduced a unique approach based on their model 303 static mercury drop electrode (see Sec. II.F). Our laboratories and MacCrehan et al. [9] have focused on the use of amalgamated gold disks. This approach results in an inexpensive, easily prepared, and mechanically rigid electrode that can be used in conventional thin-layer cells (Sec. Rote et al. (1993, 1994) used a carotid thrombosis model in dogs. A calibrated electromagnetic flow meter was placed on each common carotid artery proximal to both the point of insertion of an intravascular electrode and a mechanical constrictor. The external constrictor was adjusted with a screw until the pulsatile flow pattern decreased by 25 % without altering the mean blood flow. Electrolytic injury to the intimal surface was accomplished with the use of an intravascular electrode composed of a Teflon-insulated silver-coated copper wire connected to the positive pole of a 9-V nickel-cadmium battery in series with a 250000 ohm variable resistor. The cathode was connected to a subcutaneous site. Injury was initiated in the right carotid artery by application of a 150 xA continuous pulse anodal direct current to the intimal surface of the vessel for a maximum duration of 3 h or for 30 min beyond the time of complete vessel occlusion as determined by the blood flow recording. Upon completion of the study on the right carotid, the procedure for induction of vessel wall injury was repeated on the left carotid artery after administration of the test drug. [Pg.285]
