Mechanical properties cast pipes

This type of cast iron is made by high-temperature heat treatment of white iron castings. The mechanical properties of malleable cast irons are given in Table 3.1 usually they are applied to the fabrication of conveyor chain links, pipe fittings and gears. 

If specified, the vendor shall furnish material certificates that include chemical analysis and mechanical properties for the heats from which the material is supplied for pressure-containing castings and forgings, impellers and shafts. Unless otherwise specified, piping nipples, auxiliary piping components, and bolting are excluded from this requirement. 

Loss in mechanical properties such as reduced tensile strength of cast iron pipes contributed to the pipe failures. 

As reviewed, the mechanical properties of centrifugally molded pipe and 55° filament wound pipe are much more resin dependent than typical custom engineered pipe. With centrifugally cast pipe, the tensile properties are very resin dependent because the fibers are chopped into relatively short lengths. It is subjected to creep and time-loss of mechanical properties. In addition, resin properties drop radically with temperature especially near the glass transition temperature. 

The mechanical properties of cast pipes are generally inferior to those of extrnded pipes. However, using grades of PE containing antioxidants and carbon black it is possible to prodnce cast pipes with mechanical properties closely approaching those of extruded pipes. 

Cured epoxy-anhydride systems exhibit excellent thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties, and are used in filament-wound epoxy pipe, PCB laminates, mineral-filled composites, and electrical casting and encapsidation applications. Anhydride-cin-ed epoxies also have better aqueous acid resistance than similar amine-cured systems.
