Matrix-enhanced

In addition to qualitative identification of the elements present, XRF can be used to determine quantitative elemental compositions and layer thicknesses of thin films. In quantitative analysis the observed intensities must be corrected for various factors, including the spectral intensity distribution of the incident X rays, fluorescent yields, matrix enhancements and absorptions, etc. Two general methods used for making these corrections are the empirical parameters method and the fimdamen-tal parameters methods. [Pg.342]

In a previous investigation, Klont and Ten Cate (1991) showed that dentin must be demineralized before its matrix can be degraded by proteases. In the present study, it was demonstrated that proteolytic degradation of the demineralized matrix enhanced the susceptibility of dentin lesions to acid-dependent demineralization. [Pg.28]

Many researchers have shown that incorporation of nanoscale dimension particles (inorganic fillers, nanotubes, nanofibers etc) into a polymer matrix enhances the mechanical properties of the polymer without significantly raising its density or sacrificing its light transmission property. For instance, the Toyota research groups... [Pg.26]

Indeed, BTSILs strategy turned out to be really efficient, especially in terms of kinetics compared to using pure TSILs as supports for synthesis. However, if adding an IL matrix enhanced all physical characteristics of the assembly and allowed for modulation of reactivity, it is rather difficult to separate the synthetic OS supported intermediates from the matrix without releasing them from the support. As a result, the concept of BTSIL was extended to the use of molecular solvents which could be removed after reaction under reduced pressure. [Pg.112]

Quirk et al. [1989] have reported the crystallization behavior in blends of PPE with PET. Since the blend components showed only a small difference in the interfacial tension, quite small dispersions could be obtained (d = 4 am). The authors reported that the glassy PPE matrix enhanced the cold crystallization of PET after being quenched. Decreasing the PPE content from 75 to 50 wt%... [Pg.268]

The results published in the literature demonstrate the effect of nitrogen incorporation as a key parameter for the adsorptive properties of carbon materials [73-78] and for the catalytic activity and dispersion of carbon-supported catalysts [79], It has been reported that the presence of nitrogen functionalities within the carbon matrix enhances the processes of hydrogen sulfide and SO2 removal by activated carbons [74, 75, 78]. [Pg.163]
