Mass market acceptance

Biological fuel cells have a long history in the literature,but in recent years, they have come to prominence as more conventional fuel cell technologies have approached mass-market acceptance. Driving the recent ascendance of biofuel cells are the aspects of biocatalysis that are unmatched by conventional low-temperature oxidation—reduction catalysts, namely, activity at near-room temperatures and neutral pH and, more importantly, selective catalytic activity. 

Rechargeable nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries possess attributes that make them ideal for powering portable appliances such as cellular and cordless telephones, portable household appliances, and power tools. Since their mass-market introduction in the mid-1980s, they have achieved wide consumer acceptance in all member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The 29 states are listed in the Appendix. 

In both the USA and Europe, advertising for patients is generally acceptable (although it is much more usual in the USA). Generally, approval of advertisements by local ethics committees is required. Mass marketing techniques and rapid recruitment of qualified patients by external agencies may well be highly cost-effective when clinical trials are planned or under way. 

Design has been considered as a critical factor to the final product form, cost, reliability, and market acceptance. The improvements made to product design may significantly reduce the product cost while causing only a minor increase in the design cost. As a result, it is believed that mass customization can best be approached from design, in particular, the up-front effort in the early stages of the product-development process. 

However, the value of weight saving in automobiles is much less and only the cheapest composite materials are acceptable at present in such mass markets. This is often summarised in a rule of thumb which suggests that ... 

Acceptance Testing. The highest level of tests carried out to determine if the product is acceptable to the customer. These would typically be based around the requirements of the system and usually involves the user. If there were many possible users, for example when the product is being built for a mass market, then the product would also be subjected to alpha and beta testing ... 

The acceptance of optical data storage iato the mass storage market, which is as yet exclusively dominated by magnetic systems, will be fundamentally boosted if optical drives and media are subject to uniform standards and become fully compatible, and multiuser drives are offered which enable the user to employ alternatively CD-ROM and EOD disks, and maybe WORM disks as well (and CD-R disks, respectively). A prerequisite, however, will be whether rewritable optical memories will use the MOR or the PCR process. This accord especially will be hard to reach. 

Medicine. The polymethacrylates have been used for many years in the manufacture of dentures, teeth, denture bases, and filling materials (116,117) (see Dental materials). In the orthodontics market, methacrylates have found acceptance as sealants, or pit and fissure resin sealants which are painted over teeth and act as a barrier to tooth decay. The dimensional behavior of curing bone-cement masses has been reported (118), as has the characterization of the microstmcture of a cold-cured acryUc resin (119). Polymethacrylates are used to prepare both soft and hard contact lenses (120,121). Hydrogels based on 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate are used in soft contact lenses and other biomedical appHcations (122,123) (see Contactlenses). 

Although considerable research has been conducted with Pd-alloy foils, tubes, and thinner composite membranes, long-term durability and stability need to be further demonstrated, especially in the fuel reforming or WGS operating conditions, for acceptance of this technology in a commercial sector. Furthermore, mass-scale and cost-effective production of industrial-scale Pd-alloy thin-film composite membranes need to be demonstrated to be competitive in the hydrogen production and purification market. 

After introducing the reference procedure values for cholesterol, based on IDMS measurements, the different peer group target values have now been replaced by one reference procedure value, which in our case is represented as the exact middle of the screen. The corresponding limits of acceptance are shown as the solid square. As a consequence, methods with inherent systematic errors like the Liebermann-Burchard method and the cholesterol oxidase/iodide method disappeared off the market and today only procedures which are within the limits of acceptance with the reference procedure values established by isotope dilution mass spectrometry exist. In fact, until 1988 there was an unacceptably wide scatter of procedure-dependent target values for many clinical chemical parameters. In order to improve accuracy in clinical chemistry it was absolutely essential to replace these method-dependent target values with reference procedure values.
