Marjoram oil, Spanish

Marjoram Oil, Spanish Type, occurs as a slightly yellow liquid with a camphoraceous note. It is a volatile oil obtained by steam distillation from the flowering plant Thymus mastichina L. (Fam. Labiatae). It is soluble in most fixed oils, but it is insoluble in glycerin, in propylene glycol, and in mineral oil. [Pg.279]

Spanish marjoram oil is distilled from Thymus mastichina L., a wild plant growing in Spain. The oil is a slightly yellow liquid with a fresh camphoraceous odor. Its main constituent is 1,8-cineole (up to 65%). [Pg.204]

CompositionMain components are the sabinenes (see thujenes) (ca. 5%), a- (5-10%) and y-terpinenes (seep-menthadienes) (10-15%), cis-sabwewe Aydrate (see thujanoles) (10-15%), and terpinen-4-ol (see p-menthenols) (20-30%) the latter two compounds are mainly responsible for the organoleptic properties of sweet marjoram oil. The (genuine) oil should not be confused with the so-called Spanish oil obtained from Thymus mastichina which contains between 40 and 70%, - cineole. [Pg.383]
