The triple-helical structnre has also been identified in a range of other proteins, such as macrophage scavenger receptor, mannose-binding protein, and Clq, most of which play a role in host defence mechanisms. In these cases, the triplehelical domain often exhibits ligand binding, which is key to the function of the protein (14).
