Main discharges

Besides emulsified HC, pollution is composed primarily of aromatic HC in high concenttations in alkaline effluents. Miscellaneous oxygenated compounds and phenols [Pg.160]

Unless a material discharges freely, cleaners are required on belt conveyors and may be helpful on others. Common types use a rotating brush, powered from the convevor head-pulley shaft or independently, or a spring-mounted blade. The latter is applicable only at some point where the belt conveyor lies reasonably flat. Whenever cleaners are used, provision should be made for catching and chuting the material back into the main discharge stream or to a collecting container which can be periodically emptied. [Pg.1913]

Aluminum is directly applied in its metallic form when it serves as battery anode. The battery concepts considered are in general single-use types (primary batteries). The most developed systems belong to the metal-air batteries, using the reduction of atmospheric oxygen as the cathode reaction, e.g., (-) A1 / KOH / 02 (+) or (-) A1 / seawater / 02 (+). The main discharge reactions are ... [Pg.196]

The main discharge process for lithium cells based on silver chromate is 2Li(s) + Ag2Cr04(s) -> 2Ag(s) + Li2Cr04(s) (4.4)... [Pg.121]

The adequate knowledge of the parameters (such as volume, petrophysical properties, aquifer size and activity, their determination, and forecast, etc.) of the underground gas storage reservoirs is very important, because this guaranties the safety of gas supply in the future, especially in critical periods like January and February, where the consumption is high, and the gas storage reservoirs are mainly discharged. [Pg.233]

The discharge of sewage into surface waters is a major global source of pollutants. Domestic and industrial wastes are mainly discharged into sewage... [Pg.187]

The discharge header 103 empties into a main discharge. pipe 163 which in turn empties its contents into a sump 164 (Fig. 4). This sump 164 is of sufficient size to receive all of the heavy water in the system. 65... [Pg.714]

To initiate a volumetrically uniform avalanche discharge in the 2-4 atm rare gas-halogen mixture, preionization of the high-pressure mixture prior to the initiation of the main discharge is indispensable. Spatial uniformity of the... [Pg.120]

Cyanide ion is one of the most hazardous toxic pollutants in ground waters. It is mainly discharged from the industries such as gold mining, electroplating, printing, tex-... [Pg.125]

Although high-purity aluminum (up to 99.999%) is used in science and research dealing with the main discharge reactions and battery design concepts, most prototypes and batteries are made with aluminum alloys. Such materials are Alcan AB, ERC 3-4, Alcan BDW [13, 14], or S1-S6 (binary aluminum-tin alloys) [15]. Continuous efforts are made to replace expensive aluminum alloys by cheaper unalloyed A1 qualities [16, 17] or to replace the normal sheet electrode by a polymer/aluminum composite electrode [18]. A survey of widely used alloys has been carried out by Zein el Abedin [19]. [Pg.221]

Fig.l6 illustrates the mucus flow in the ventral surface and the periphery of the ventral surface of the foot obtained by the visualized mucus in which blue ink was injected. It was observed that much viscous mucus was mainly discharged from the mouth and some is also discharged from the ventral surface itself. It is said that mucus is also discharged from the mantle. However, this could not be observed clearly. Mucus from the mouth is spread the periphery of the mouth. As illustrated in the figure, it was observed that colored mucus in the ventral surface flows forward using pedal wave at the same speed of pedal wave and mucus around the sole is mainly sucked in from the posterior part. In such a manner, snails circulate mucus and reuse... [Pg.435]

All these observations lead to a qualitative view of a Mobile Environmental Reservoir, in which PCBs are mainly discharged to freshwater streams and coastal waters, where they adsorb on particles, and are carried to the oceans there is significant evaporation from the ocean surface to atmosphere, which acts as a major transport route, but from which PCBs are rained out over a wide land area material deposited on the land surface is largely re-evaporated, and washed out into rivers. As the physico-chemical properties of the individual isomers vary over orders of magnitude, each process such as evaporation, rainout, adsorption, will tend to classify the products and lead to different congener distributions in different phases. This model has not been quantified. The more permanent sinks consist of product still in service, landfill sites, and stable sediments the rate of formation of such sediments by deposition from water is not known [27, 95]. [Pg.104]
