The majority of thin paneling used today is imported from the Far East and is made from various tropical species of the luaun group, sometimes known as Philippine mahogany. These panels are normally finished using one of the processes intended to create the appearance and grain pattern of a decorative veneer or other patterns. [Pg.382]

Micellar/polymer (MP) chemical enhanced oil recovery systems have demonstrated the greatest potential of all of the recovery systems under study (170) and equivalent oil recovery for mahogany and first-intent petroleum sulfonates has been shown (171). Many somewhat different sulfonate, ie, slug, formulations, slug sizes (pore volumes), and recovery design systems were employed. Most of these field tests were deemed technically successful, but uneconomical based on prevailing oil market prices (172,173). [Pg.82]

Organ pipes today are made of a variety of woods (e.g., mahogany) and metal alloys, depending on the desired tonal quality, appearance, and cost. Most pipes are made of a varying mixture of tin and lead called spotted metal, but pipes with copper and zinc are also common.M It is widely believed that the higher the tin content, the brighter the tone and the shinier the appearance. Historically, tin was the preferred material for an organ pipe, yet the expense of the metal was always a consideration and a limitation. [Pg.113]

Petroleum sulfonic acids may be divided roughly into those soluble in hydrocarbons and those solnble in water. Because of their color, hydrocarbon-soluble acids are referred to as mahogany acids, and the water-soluble acids are referred to as green acids. The composition of each type varies with the nature of the oil sulfonated and the concentration of acids produced. In general, those formed during light acid treatment are water soluble oil-soluble acids result from more drastic sulfonation. [Pg.82]

Brown acid oil-soluble petroleum sulfonates found in acid sludge that can be recovered by extraction with naphtha solvent. Brown-acid sulfonates are somewhat similar to mahogany sulfonates but are more water soluble. In the dry, oil-free state, the sodium soaps are light-colored powders. [Pg.325]

The bulk Ca and S contents of the raw Estonian kukersite oil shale are rather high (Table 5), considerably larger than those of the Green River oil shale in Colorado (Mahogany Zone, cf. Table 8). However, the Green River oil shale is richer in Mg, Na, K, and Al, as well as in most of the trace metals and metalloids. [Pg.268]
