The styrene-based terpolymers were originally used to the extent of some 2-9% in order to reduce the notch sensitivity of the polycarbonate and to improve the environmental stress cracking resistance. More recently emphasis has been on alloys with 10-50% of SAN or ABS. Alloys of polycarbonates with ASA have also become available (Luran SC-BASF)...

The earliest preparation on an acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate (ASA) polymer is believed to have taken place in 1964 (1,2). ASA was first introduced to the market by BASF in around 1970 as Luran S, based on patents from the 1960s (3-6). 

Luran S and Geloy exhibit a high resistance to weathering. The the effects of UV light and weather on ASA type polymers have been reviewed (27). 

The ASA used exhibits special characteristics with respect to mechanical properties. Naturally, a high resistance to weathering is required. An example for an impact modified weatherable, copolymer with resistance to weathering, aging, and yellowing, is Luran S 776.

Neutron activation of the ceramic glazes was conducted at MURR. In addition to the ceramics an unglazed sherd and a crow s foot recovered during the survey of die Deh Luran Plain was also included in the INAA sample. In Middle Eastern kilns, glazed bowls are fired in stacks (6). Crow s feet are unglazed clay triangular-shaped objects about 5 cm. across that are placed...

Based on the INAA dataset and the petrographic study, at least two compositionally distinct sources provided the raw clays used for making the monochrome glazed pottery traded into the Deh Luran Plain beginning in the Parthian period aid continuing into at least the twelfth century A.D. It is only with the appearance of sgraffito, apparently first at Basra and later elsewhere that a third compositionally distinct source of raw clay appears.

Irrespective of mechanistic details, most reactions gave only one product in good to high yield. A wide variety not only of cyclopentenes or indenes, but also of heterocycles such as lurans, benzo[b]furans and y-lactams were prepared in this way. Selected examples are listed in Table 9.3.
