Seals lubrication

Lubrication is required only in the bearings, which are generally located external to the casing. The liquid itself acts as a lubricant, sealing medium, and coolant for the stuffing boxes. 

Lubricant seals must be in good condition and properly fitted into place. Coupling covers contain the lubricant and prevent contaminants from entering the coupling interior. The covers are designed in two configurations, split either horizontally or vertically. Holes are provided in the covers to allow lubricant to be added without coupling disassembly. 

NOTE The technical aspects to be considered include but are not limited to such factors as the power requirements, speed, rotation, general arrangement, couplings, dynamics, lubrication, sealing system, material test reports, instrumentation, piping, conformance to specifications and testing of components.

The softness of natural graphite is exploited in lubricants and self-lubricating seals. The particularly pure graphite from Sri Lanka is preferred for such applications, since no solid abrasive impurities are present. For the same reason, graphite is used as the lead in lead pencils. 

Our equalization valve did not have a bellows attached, and worked extremely well during the testing period. However, a bellows should be considered a necessary addition to prevent leakage of hydrogen, and to isolate the hydrogen stream from possible contaminants that arise from the cylinder lubricant/seal used.

If any of the listed or other unusual drive conditions are found, contact an ACA roller chain manufacturer for assistanee. Many ehain manufacturers offer self-lubricating, sealed joint, corrosion-resistant, plated, coated, or other specialty chains designed to operate in particular hostile environments. 

This very small gap virtually eliminates surface contact. Without surface contact, the theoretical life of the seal faces is extended almost indefinitely. The reality is that gas barrier seals are more expensive initially than conventional lubricated seals, but may cost less to operate and maintain. 

Because of the multitude of variables over which control is difficult, missile manufacturers presently give impact tests to all purchased lubricants, seals and other materials whose LOX compatibility may be critical. In addition, packaging is designed to minimize contamination of the material during storage and use. At Martin-Denver, the Quality Control inspectors are authorized to confiscate any tube of LOX lubricant that is suspected.
